We’re still collecting details but a major police response tonight shut down northbound lanes of Boren in front of the Stockbridge apartment building around 7:30 PM. Inside the lobby, an emergency crew was working to stabilize a fallen white male. He was rushed to a waiting ambulance and transported to the hospital just after 8 PM. We’ll continue to update this story as we learn more. Thanks to Bruce for the picture and to everybody for the tips and texts. Remember, you can always reach us at (206) 399-5959.
What we do know is that around 7:26 PM there was a “help the officer” call on East Precinct radio. Three minutes later, the call went out that the suspect was in custody. Five minutes later, a 911 call went out for an ambulance to be dispatched to the apartment building. The 911 dispatch was upgraded to a ‘7 per rule’ response and more emergency crews were deployed. The ‘7 per rule’ designation implies life threatening injuries.
UPDATE 9:27 PM: Here’s the word from SPD. We also had an opportunity to speak with SPD public information officer Mark Jamieson. He told us there was no indication that the man was injured during the fight but there were signs of intoxication or drug use that prompted the initial need for transport to the hospital. As the report below notes, while they waited for the ambulance, the suspect stopped breathing. Jamieson could not tell us what the man was wanted for yet but we’ll update when we learn more.
Suspect fights with officers, suffers medical emergency
On May 29th at approximately 7:30 PM, officers went to the 1300 Block of Boren Avenue to arrest a suspect with an outstanding warrant. Officers contacted the man who proceeded to fight with the officers. The fight resulted in a large police response, and the officers were able to take the suspect into custody. Once in custody, the officers escorted the man down to the street where they were waiting for transportation to the hospital. While waiting, the man stopped breathing. Seattle Fire responded and was able to resuscitate the man. He was then transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. This is still an active investigation. None of the officers involved in the fight were injured.

My friend and I were walking up to the south west corner of boren and union when the police first arrived. Twenty officers, lights flashing, sirens howling arrived in two minutes. Car door left open and the police just ran into the building. Pretty crazy. Lots of gun violence in the city of recently involving our armed forces.
the medics didn’t arrive until fifteen minutes after the arrival of the first wave of cruisers. How could this be considered a medical response?
My apartment is directly accross from the Stockbridge enterance. I was watching television and heard the sirens, but did not get up. Since we are right next to three hospitals I am always hearing sirens go up Union. But after realizing that the siren noise was not passing by, I went to my balcony and was shocked to see dozens of cop cars parked filling up the entire street. The noise was loud but soon they turned the sirens off and it was pretty calm. Dozens of police officers were going in and out of the building but not in an urgent manner. People were gathering on the corner of Boren and Union waiting to see what would happen. After about 20 minutes, most of the cop cars left with about 7 remaining. An ambulance came and took the man out and then other cops went in with crime scene tape. It was pretty unusual for this neighborhood!
I walked about about 10:15 and there were still cars there. One Seattle PD, three undercover police cars, and one sheriff/transit.
gonna turn out interesting…
Saw the whole thing yesterday. They are across the street. The fight was amazing with the cop going balistic. This morning a toxic film was found throughout the neighborhood. Beware…of the toxic.
I feel sick also…the film is everywhere…freakin everywhere.
What is a toxic film?
I live in the Stockbridge and neighbors reported hearing a time of death called. Disgusting human fluid, syringes, latex gloves left everywhere. Poor maintenance guy left with the clean up.
Yeah, the maintenance guy was left with a whole lot of clean up, but they (the building) were able to get a bio-clean-up crew out there pretty quickly.
The Seattlepi.com is reporting that the individual who stopped breathing was revived. My main reason for posting it was to counter that he may have died, as hinted to in an earlier post. I posted the text of the story here and it was deleted for reasons unknown.
You can access it here:

That is, unless this post is deleted, too.
Your previous comment was deleted because it included the entirety of another site’s article and no link. Thanks for the follow-up comment and sorry I didn’t have time to contact you regarding the previous comment.
As we included from the SPD report above, the victim did not die at the scene. The PI article, by the way, is based on the same information we gathered. They don’t seem to know anything more about the suspect’s condition than I was able to report.
Did they really need that many there? I mean seriously…was there nothing else for them to do? I can think of areas of Seattle that need a better response to a call.
this is my direct neigbor and he scared the shit out of me. unwashed and dzed all the time. he had turettes and was a schitzo. he was quite a scary dood. hope hes evicted. and this happened while i was out of town thank goodness.
