The Group Health campus south building near 15th Ave and Thomas is being evacuated this morning because of a ‘suspicious item’ found in the vicinity. According to a Seattle Police Department spokesperson, SPD investigators are at the scene assisting Group Health security in examining the item and clearing the building. The call about the item came in around 10:40 AM and the SPD spokesperson said he is not aware of any threats having been made in association with the item.
Last month, CHS reported on a late-night lockdown of the campus following threats police say a man made against the hospital’s birthing center and his wife who was giving birth at the facility. The man suspected in that case was charged on two counts of felony harassment and remains in jail on $1 million bail, according to county prosecutors.
I was a part of a presentation today at GHC. I serve on the Medical Center Advisory Council. The MCAC was co-sponsoring a “Your Life Your Choices” program which offers information about your end of life choices and opportunities. When I walked out of the S Campus just before 11 there was law enforcement everywhere. When I arrived home I heard they had evacuated buildings, they were only stopping persons from entering the building when I left( near the pharmacy.)
