Hard to say what went down at the Redwood last Sunday evening but it wasn’t pretty. A man told police he went to the E. Howell bar last Sunday night to meet a friend around 11 PM. The man said he sat at a table with a friend and another man who later stood up and went to use the restroom for “a long time.”

What happened next isn’t entirely clear from the redacted SPD report but the man who contacted police said he decided to leave the bar after the other man returned from the bathroom. As he left, the man told police he saw the other man reach into a pocket and grab what he believed were brass knuckles. The other man then struck him above his left eye with a grazing blow and followed that with a blow the victim’s head. The victim said he then fell to the sidewalk and was kicked in the head and ribs by the assailant. The report says a group of bystanders saw the assault and chased the suspect from the scene.
