Stevens Elementary’s annual carnival lights up a gloomy Friday (night!)

CHS moms, dads and professional and semi-pro childcare providers, listen up. How about a little bean bag toss to brighten up a gloomy, stuck in the house kind of Friday? Today from noon to 4 PM 5 to 8 PM at Stevens Elementary in Fancy Pants Capitol Hill, the school’s parent-teacher association is putting on the Stevens Carnival with lots of old-timey goodness.

In past carnivals, the fundraiser has included golf ball tub, water balloon toss, water squirt, nail hammering (safe, of course), stomp rocket, airplane toss, ring toss, cake walk (!!!), hoop shoot, air blaster (?), marble grab pond (formerly soap grab), fortune telling, face painting (get a unicorn, obv), water balloon launch, recycle race (teaching kids good habits), nut cracker (nut allergies beware). And for the little ones, hoop shoot, bean bag toss (a CHS favorite) and toys in the hay. In other words, you have to go. Bring some cash for the cheap game tickets and food and drink selections that will be available to power the little ones’ booster rockets for yet another game of hoop shoot.

Stevens Elementary is at 1242 18th Ave E.

If you see any staff around, you might want to chat them up on the growing discord in the ranks about the performance of superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson. But only after you’ve got a game or two of water squirt in ya.

UPDATE: To make up for the flub (we originally posted that this started at noon!), we’re told Top Pot is giving away one free doughnut per person to celebrate National Doughnut Day. Treat yourself.
