July ending with jump in Hill area street robberies — UPDATE

Add a small string of related attacks to the “regular” street robbery activity on Capitol Hill and you get a noticeable bump in the crime trends. CHS has found details of seven reported street robberies that happened in a 72-hour period starting Saturday night — that’s half the total we’ve seen around the Hill so far in July. Details of the individual incidents below. The good news, so far, is no further reports of the young kids who snatched purses from two women at gunpoint early Sunday and Monday mornings.

  • Tuesday 1:04 PM, 25th Ave E. & E. McGrawMan assaulted a robbed the victim, then left southbound
  • Tuesday 11:33 AM, 1700 17th Ave — Strong arm robbery, still gathering details. UPDATE: No word from SPD on this one yet and we didn’t hear any chatter about it on the police scanner so a bit of a mystery.
  • Tuesday 1:28 AM, 300 Pontius Ave N — Street robbery, bodily force
  • Monday 3:52 PM, 600 E Pike — Strong arm robbery, still gathering details. UPDATE: Turns out, this robbery was reported on Monday but actually occurred early Friday morning. A woman came into East Precinct on Monday to file a report on an attempted robbery in which a man approached her around 12:30 AM on Friday as she walked on Pike and talked on her phone. He took her wallet and her phone and dropped both items to the pavement as he ran away — presumably with cash or without if her wallet is like mine.
  • Monday 4:01 AM, 1400 Boren — Armed robbery: Woman reported being robbed of purse by two young black males with gun
  • Sunday 3:00 AM, 13th Ave and E Denny — Armed robbery: Woman reported being robbed of purse by two young black males with gun
  • Saturday 7:30 PM, 1700 Broadway — Street robbery, bodily force: Scant details but a woman reported being robbed outside the Capitol Hill Block Party of undisclosed item. Crime was not reported until days later.
