12th and John Obama mural getting overhaul just in time for president’s visit

We’re getting a lot of notes about the Obama mural on the garage door at 12th and John — or, really, the lack of it. It’s gone. Instead, today, where you used to find this:

you’ll find this (thanks to Staton DuBois for the pic):

While some might find metaphorical significance in the displacement of Obama from his watch over the John hillclimb, it sounds like the blank slate is only temporary. CHS contributor (and Capitol Hill Community Council officer) Jennifer Power shed some light on the situation via Twitter:

With President Obama planning an August 17th Seattle visit to aid Patty Murray’s fundraising effort for her bid to retain her seat in the senate, maybe the garage door should feature a more direct message for the next few months.

Hey, this isn’t on Capitol Hill, but it’s our party and we LIVE on Capitol Hill! We’re having an Obama Birthday Party at the OBAMA ROOM at Cafe Racer. Since Obama’s from Hawaii, we’re having food and drink from the Islands of Hawaii and a 10-piece ukulele band! Details here: http://seattletwist.com/2010/07/23/obamas-birthday-celebrati

It’s free! C’mon by and see our new giant folk art head of OBAMA at the Official Bad Art Museum of Art (OBAMA) at Cafe Racer. It’s on Wednesday, August 4th, President Obama’s 49th birthday.

I liked the Obama mural when there was a graffiti penis drawn on the nose.

You ARE kidding, right?

Only a total idiot would approve of crass graffiti on this great painting of our country’s President.

“Only a total idiot would approve of crass graffiti on this great painting of our country’s President.”

Eh, if they could deface it in a talented manner I’d give it a pass. But, all the taggers who marked up this one sucked, so I agree. Images of the President aren’t sacrosanct, but I would prefer that people refrain from marking up these nice peoples’ garage.

I’m glad to see the imperial cult has lost one of its sacred icons.
