Volunteer Park is surprisingly productive for bird watchers, by the way. In the past, we’ve featured this family of ducks, this beautiful heron and these predatory raptors from the park.
No word if they’ll include any hunting hawks in the mix but, since we’re talking about Volunteer Park, you might want to make plans to visit this weekend as the first ever Medieval Country Faire takes over the grounds on Saturday and Sunday. More on the fair, er, faire shortly.
Sing a Song of Sixpence,
A bag full of Rye,
Four and twenty
Naughty boys,
Bak’d in a Pye.When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing;
Was not that a dainty dish,
To set before the king?
The king was in his counting-house,
Counting out his money;
The queen was in the parlor,
Eating bread and honey.The maid was in the garden,
Hanging out the clothes,
There came a little blackbird,
And snapped off her nose.
I saw a heron fly over and land in one of the Volunteer Park koi ponds Sat dusk. It hung out on the lily pads watching the fish, too many observers for it to hunt. Watch out baby koi!
I saw a deer on Prospect and Boylston this morning- a few blocks from the west side of Volunteer park. I’ve lived here for six years and never seen one- has anyone else? It was big but still had it’s spots, so maybe it was a yearling? I’m always amazed at the city dwelling animals.
