Seattle Police are responding to monitor a ‘anti-cop’ rally organizing this afternoon at Seattle Central. Below is information we received about the protest. We reported on a vigil in Pioneer Square held Thursday night to remember JT Williams, the man shot dead by a Seattle Police officer earlier this week.

you may have heard about the brutal murders that happened yesterday and today by police in washington state (Seattle Cops Kill Again). with all of the work being done to quell anti-cop sentiment, a quick response to this news is appropriate.folks will gather for literature distribution regarding these two specific murders this FRIDAY 9/3 from NOON to 2 pm in front of seattle central community college, on the corner of broadway and pine. people are encouraged to make banners, signs, their own handouts/pamphlets, and respect a diversity of tactics regarding people’s public response to these tragedies.
this is a perfect opportunity to continue conversations regarding strategies for further timely community or individual responses to cop killings, as well as to find each other while addressing our rage at the police/state.
I hate being lumped into the ‘anti-cop’ group. I’m 26, a homeless advocate working for a large agency, and an Evergreen grad. This sort of thing makes it harder for me to engage in meaningful conversation with my more conservative friends, because the automatic assumption is that I must hate cops, too.
I attended the vigil for Mr. Williams, and I absoultely agree that this was an un-justified, senseless murder. I’ve been talking about it all week with friends and family, trying to learn why people don’t see this incident the way I do. Listening to their arguments educates me and has only ended up strengthening my own feelings on the matter.
Anti-cop rallies too often are student-oriented, and so much of the rhetoric is generalistic and childish. Do you really think that calling a cop a pig is adding anything to the conversation?
I’ve seen my fair share of police officers needlessly harass the homeless, but I’ve also met members of the force who interact with compassion and understanding. I agree that there are systemic issues within the police force, but it’s not just law enforcement and if anything dangerous or bad were happening to a loved one, do you know who I’d call? The effing cops, that’s who.
And ‘respect a diversity of tactics’? I remember that from my Olympia days- a bunch of snot-nosed kids with bandanas running around turning over garbage cans and further alienating members of the system they oppose. Yeesh.
I was horrified to click the link above – Seattle Cops Kill Again – thinking I’d be taken to an intelligent or at least informative piece on police violence – but instead found an incitation of violence against police. I’m sure we need to be looking into these issues and the protest noted in this post is probably warranted.. but linking to a post that states, “All attacks on the police deserve support.”? I’m baffled…
I just looked at that link to “Seattle Cops Kill again”. That’s some sick stuff. The person who feels the worst about this death is the cop himself.
Because this group planned the event, and our city has people with a wide range of views. I think it’s about as crazy as the Ron Paul supporters who want to over throw the federal income tax. We need police, and obviously that group is blinded by their prejudices, but remember, we are the region that played host to the 1990 WTO riots and countless acts of vandalism by eco-extremists that happen all the time. It’s okay to be exposed to someone’s extreme views. I value that in our society, but don’t support what they’re saying at all.

i agree. wtf kind of drivel is this to link to? not that they are worrying about ad revenue (!), but inflated impressions will give these dimwits some kind of bragging rights.
while there has been some bad police there have been ones of great good,,some of most natiest bad cops connected to some anti cop people…..while true some banks overcharge not in good ways,,,also some activists,,church leaders, groups,,and all kinds people all colors, income levels,,………there used to be long ago good govt, agencies, and good oppor..for us…….middle class people of good ways not part of some activist groups,,who mess up our oppor for deserved good,,who make us pay more and get free for selves..want more…..nor low income ones or celebrity who take us low, misuse,,have done nothing to help except own clique,,…….while some support good causes as health whales, environment, etc or engage in peaceful protest does not mean that some of them innocent of bullies,,cruelty, thefts, violence to some of most deserving and vulnerable good……..or those groups all colors who took everthing possible,,,took to worse contaminated places and people….sit..or reverse slavery…………was great good????out of some all colors,,, was for refuge,,wise helpers…….not knew who right ones were,,are,,so imp…from another area>>>>>?????some groups have spent decades to help selves to take and give to lot of questionable ones……..regards colors?????i like blue for support of clean water, air,..green for trees,,,brown for earth,,yellow for protection and intellect,,middle way,,purple was good though lot of enemies wear it,,,,,,,,orange was for something else not as some groups misused it who have tried take every resource possible,,,,red hearts,,,there lot of bad all colors people all sides while some of good where are they???while some want free for selves,,want more from higher wealthy,,yet form abusice bully groups,,in systems,,,controls…etc………not right to make me pay more,,,try get thousands dollars illegally just to unblock our deserved entitlements,,,or oppor,,,who all owe us big ways………….as victim 27 years………….,where right ones?????who not either extreme???there were some people who from previous coloney of british and desparately wished was coloney again as have suffered by own people greatly…………there used to be real good people all races,,in agencies, and places,,all races of good,,,..good and evil of many….all income levels,,races…while having been set up by scheming ones all colors,,and horrible abuse, there have been activist groups who used gang members to occupy us while they went on vacations or got more for selves,, bad sheriffs who did not help when groups stole our stuff, children,,bad cops who made stay with horrible ones all colors,,or refused to help, come to aid when ones took to most horrible beatings and druggings, misuse,,or when disabled, injuried,,and ones all colors, income levels mismanipilated, set up misused screwed over took low,,had difficulty for right good???when there…a lot difficult to remember always,,……not had helper to got with right project, people, refuge…….difficult to keep trying or communicating..found right ones????? i remember good cop who came when some people using excessive force against one another and got them on the ground,,then to talked about all about and eventually got them laughing about why they were brutal to one another, and after police left they remarked how good they were……i remember some good police who tried long time to try to help us, i was too scared,,……..how to got back??? remember nastiest horrible police all colors,,ones behind it,,who behind horrible situations too many years,,…where how got lost from all right people…and arrangements, good offers……..while one said be true to self how can one when too victim 27 years,,no proper help as for all about, what is, etc…….please have mercy,,as many unwise actions,,right ones???out of block
