In September 2008, we crowd-sourced the Capitol Hill foodies’ collective delight as Poppy was born on north Broadway. Thursday night, Jerry Traunfeld’s saffron and poppy red restaurant celebrates its second anniversary:

We can’t believe it, Poppy is turning 2 on Thursday! Come celebrate our anniversary September 16. Two dollars off all cocktails, wine by the glass and beer (happy hour menu excluded), and 30% off bottles of wine. We’ll pour bubbles for a toast to 2 at 10PM. Hope you can join us.

Traunfeld’s early investment in north Broadway was the start of a transition for the area that is still underway. Nearby, the former home of Jade Pagoda is undergoing an overhaul and Bank of America is moving in next door. Across the street, Starbucks has invested heavily in its Roy St. Coffee and Tea location and a new lounge is preparing to move in. Meanwhile, a little ways down Roy, Joe Bar and Olivar provide their own version of gourmet experiences.
