Man ripped off for $1,300 cash by man he knew in Belmont Ave armed robbery

An armed robbery inside a Belmont Ave East apartment building Sunday morning netted a thief $1,300 in cash and a maroon cellphone and left its victim bloodied and wanting his money back from a man he apparently knew.

Police were called to the Broadway Market QFC Sunday morning just after 8 AM when a man dialed 911 to report that he had been robbed about 30 minutes earlier and that he needed medical attention.

While the man’s minor injuries were treated, SPD learned that a man had stolen the large amount of cash and the victim’s cellphone from him while inside an apartment building in the 400 block of Belmont Ave East.

The victim apparently knew his assailant. The victim was able to provide police with the suspect’s description — and the robber’s name. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the 23-year-old suspect. King County Jail Records indicate he has not been arrested and booked at this time.

We’ll watch for an explanation for why the victim was carrying such a large amount of cash and what led to the interaction with the suspect when SPD’s full report on the incident becomes available.
