Seattle City Council member Tom Rasmussen was on Capitol Hill Saturday morning to meet with community members, answer questions and, he said, get some things done. The chair of the Council’s transportation committee, Rasmussen also fielded issues at a personal level: One man in attendance wanted to know how best to lobby Sound Transit so his dog can ride their buses. Service dogs are allowed on King County’s Metro, the man said, but it’s official guide dogs only on Sound Transit vehicles.
Rasmussen is also at the start of his campaign to keep his seat on the Council in this November’s election. We talked to one of his challengers, Maurice Classen, in April. UPDATE: Sorry for the error. Rasmussen is facing a challenge from Seattle Central filmmaker Sandy Cioffi. We featured her campaign here.
Classen isn’t challenging Rasmussen. Please correct this error
Thanks. Fixed — We also spoke with Cioffi who *is* challenging Rasmussen. Updated above!
Rasmussen’s part of the static and stodge of our current City Hall. They’ve grown increasingly out of touch, increasingly unwilling to do battle for the people they represent and incapable of envisioning new ways to create revenue for the city, increasingly lame in Olympia, etc. And, it’s under this current council’s watch that our police dept. went rogue while this council said next to nothing, did next to nothing about it.
I’ll take my chances on Cioffi.
I think Tom Rasmussen is an excellent civil servant and works very hard for the citizens of Capitol Hill and all of Seattle. He’s got my vote.
He’s so excellent that, like a sheep, he followed the path of silence while some of our men in blue beat and/or killed the citizens they’re entrusted with protecting. He’s so excellent that our railtransit is decades behind where it should be with completion set for sometime in the 2030s. He’s so excellent that you never see the guy until he wants our votes.
Our last Mayor fought for the lamely named Link Light Rail. The current one fights for the better transport options all the time. Rasmussen signed off on the wasteful tunnel boondoggle under pressure from the state and all of the ignoramuses who believe a bad solution done today is better than a frustratingly long solution that’s well-planned and implemented tomorrow.
But, hey, if that’s “leadership” and servitude, I guess we all just have to accept that we’re screwed.
Sorry. No way. Seattle’s too precious ;-)
In a May 1st CHS post, a gentleman who attended a meeting featuring Seattle City Councilman Tom Rassmussen shared an inaccurate understanding of Sound Transit’s policy on service animals. All service animals, not just guide dogs, are allowed on Sound Transit vehicles. Pets may ride if they are carried in small containers.
You can find Sound Transit’s policy on service animals on its website at http://www.soundtransit.org/Rider-Guide/Getting-started/Rule.
Like most rabid anti-tunnel people, you have “tunnel vision.”
You can vote against him if you want, but there is no way Tom Rasmussen will not be re-elected.
