North Broadway purse snatchers flee empty-handed as bystander gives chase

Last Friday may have been a good day as far as East Precinct crime goes but Sunday was not so good for this woman who was hit in the head as two teens tried to steal her purse in broad daylight on a sunny May Day afternoon near 10th Ave E and Roy. Fortunately for the woman, an alert bystander came to her aid and gave chase to the sneak-attack thieves as they left the scene empty-handed. Here’s the report from SPD on the north Broadway incident that went down just before 2:30 Sunday afternoon.

Muggings and purse snatchings have been relatively rare lately on the Hill. The most recent incident we’ve reported on was this backpack grab near Hubbell Place.

And he would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!

I love how we add more drama to these muggings (or attempted muggings, as it were) by using ‘IN BROAD DAYLIGHT’. Crime doesn’t happen on a clock, it’s opportune, it happens when the rats decide it is going to happen. I am still amazed that in BROAD DAYLIGHT these rats can run and hide so easily, now that is dramatic.

Maybe you don’t understand the term. It’s not about the drama and of course crime doesn’t happen on the clock. The risk is higher IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. It is more brazen IN BROAD DAYLIGHT.
