Man tells SPD he was robbed, shot leaving Capitol Hill Block Party

A man who was found with a gunshot wound to his upper thigh at his south Seattle home told police he was robbed and shot as he was leaving the Capitol Hill Block Party early Saturday morning.

According to SPD, the man told police he was getting into his vehicle around 2:30a when he was approached by a black male who said, “Give me your wallet,” and pointed a black hand gun at him. As the man handed over his wallet, he says he was shot and then drove six miles to his home where he called 911.

The man told police he was unsure exactly where the shooting occurred but that it was on a side street off Pine.

The man was treated at Harborview for his injury.

why would he drive six miles back to his house when swedish is about a mile from where he was supposedly shot? something doesn’t sound quite right with his story.

There is something not right about this story.

Yeah, this doesn’t seem right. There’s a police station on 12th and Pine, plenty of nearby hospitals, and there were a bunch of people out late. Nobody would drive home from there after being shot.

What were you really doing to get yourself shot? No one drives six miles after a shooting unless they were doing something wrong themselves…

Unless you were a local, you would probably not know where the police station was. And you might not know just where the hospitals were either. And that late at night, probably too tired, shaken, and, perhaps, a little buzzed to think clearly.

I agree this sounds…odd…but bear in mind he was likely in shock, and not thinking very clearly.

I’ve been known to make odd decisions under substantially less stressful circumstances, and I’m a pretty functional human being 99% of the time.

…he didn’t realize he was shot until he got home. It happens.
…he didn’t have insurance, thought he could deal with the wound himself until he got a look at it.
…he didn’t know the area and had forgotten his cell phone.
…he was going to be all manly and “walk it off” about it and someone at his house said, “Dumbass! Call the cops! Go to the hospital!”

…that seems to involve the occasional flying lead these days.
