Two thieves did $2,000 in damage to a local cancer survivor support center when they stole copper piping from the air conditioning units at Capitol Hill’s Gilda’s Club last Friday morning. SPD’s estimated scrap copper value of the stolen piping: 10 bucks.
According to the police report on the incident, a caller who had been waiting for the bus around 6a on Friday, July 22nd reported seeing two people stealing pipes from the building at Broadway and E Union. SPD found fresh cut marks on the pipes where the thieves apparently used bolt cutters to pinch off at least three pipes. The caller described the thieves as two black teens and said they were last seen heading east on Union.
