The First Hill man whose car was seized as part of a five-year Federal “wardriving” identity theft investigation has been indicted along with two other men he is accused of conspiring with to gain access to computer networks and commit thousands of dollars in fraud at dozens of local businesses.
Joining John Griffin, a 36-year-old 8th Ave condo-dweller, in the indictment are Seattle men Brad Lowe, 36, and Josh Witt, 34, who were already charged with nine counts of burglary for their alleged roles in the break-ins that appeared to target hardware containing names and information of employees and customers.
Last April, CHS reported details of Griffin’s black Mercedes tricked out for what Federal prosecutors say was to create the perfect wardriving machine and the owner’s arrest for using stolen gift gards at 12th Ave Local Vine wine bar.
At that time, investigators told CHS that the wardriving ring was most likely not connected to a wave of credit and bank card fraud that hit Capitol Hill in the fall of 2010.
