Seattle’s preparations for a visit by Barack Obama this weekend apparently included the investigation of a threat made against the president on Capitol Hill Friday night.
Citing the sensitivity of the investigation, Seattle Police would not release the report on the “threats — dignitary” incident to CHS and the Secret Service typically does not comment on these types of incidents but we have learned that a man’s statements made at Elliott Bay Book Co. Friday night sparked the investigation on the eve of the president’s visit to Seattle for weekend fundraisers.
The incident occurred 45 minutes before an appearance at Elliott Bay by journalist and activist Steve Early who was scheduled to speak about his latest work covering “the progressive labor movement conflicts and internecine struggles that undermined campaigns for real health care and labor reform during 2008 – 2010.”
We do not know if anybody was arrested related to this investigation. If you saw what happend on 10th Ave Friday night, let us know. We’ve requested the report through the city’s public disclosure process but because it involves an open investigation, we’re unlikely to be able to access the report anytime soon.
Obama appeared Sunday at a fundraiser held at the Paramount Theater before flying to California where his West Coast tour continues. It was Obama’s third visit to Washington since his 2008 election.
somebody said something negative about the President at Elliot Bay.
