The E-Waste Crisis; What you can do.

Consumer electronic sales have soared in the recent months. From the new releases of the Apple I-Phone to Amazon Kindles, every time we turn our heads a new product has hit the shelf . However fun this may be, no one has addressed the issue of what becomes of our old electronics once we have no need for them.

According to DoSomething.org, the nation now dumps between 300 million and 400 million electronic items per year, making up 70 percent of the overall toxic waste that enters the environment. This can be attributed to the 50 millions cell phones that are purchased per month or even to the 85 percent of electronic waste that never gets recycled. Do you see a problem yet?

Well at Friendly Earth, we do, and have created an organization to end this crisis. Friendly Earth is dedicated to recycling 100% of the electronics we receive through our facility. Our commitment to providing alternative ways to dispose of electronic waste helps us to protect the environment and effectively recycle and reuse electronics to sustain communities and other organizations in need. One hundred percent of the items we receive are reused, recycled, refurbished or salvaged for parts.

Well that’s a relief, you say you want to help? Well…

Friendly Earth and The Whole Foods Market are excited to provide a day of free electronic recycling for members of the Ravenna neighborhood and surrounding area. Any old, used, broken or unwanted electronics can be brought down to be recycled and will be accepted for free.

This may include but is not limited to; appliances, metals, computer equipment and components, home and business electronics, batteries, machinery and electronic accessories.  Speakers, light bulbs, paints, wood based products and small miscellaneous plastics will not be accepted at this time.
