The curse of Ming strikes the Social — UPDATE: Barboza debuts

Earlier this week, we introduced you to EVO Tapas Kitchen & Cabaret and told you to watch for the opening of the new E Olive Way restaurant’s dance club counterpart the Social. You’ll need to keep watching. While EVO is ready for the public tonight (UPDATE: But delaying until next week also, according to a man in the know in comments), the Social has had to delay things and is currently planning its grand opening for next Friday, May 11th. Management says construction and a pending inspection are responsible for the delay. But it’s possible there is something else at work here. Blame Ming.

According to the police report on the incident, a mysterious burglary last weekend at the building housing the club, the restaurant and a salon seems to have involved someone breaking out of the building. SPD speculates that an employee or a guest at an EVO preview party that night is to blame:

As Ming was fond of the drink (plum wine, to be exact), some of the laborers speculated that he had fallen down an obscured shaft as the cement was pouring. Indeed, after finding a sandal at the bottom of the shaft, one of the Keller brothers discovered part of a man’s foot rising out of the fresh cement. By then, the cement had been setting for four days—longer than anyone could have survived its suffocating mass. Under cover of night, the Kellers poured an extra layer of cement to conceal their discovery.

The curse of Ming may have finally lifted for Barboza. The new subterranean venue beneath Neumos is slated to be open for its first Friday of business

The Social? Only time will tell.

I was told at the press launch for EVO on Thursday night that they are NOT opening this weekend, but early next week.

But, maybe they’ve changed their plans again.
