Capitol Hill bartender charged in sex with 13-year-old girl

Bartender Matthew Cannelora has been charged with rape of a child in the second degree. The charges against the bartender familiar to many bar goers and the food and drink community on Capitol Hill were surfaced over the weekend by The Public Data Ferret site.

Cannelora is charged in connection with an incident last December involving multiple sex acts with a 13-year-old girl he was helping to take care of at his sister’s Rainer Beach home. Cannerlora and the girl allegedly became drunk while watching a movie before the 28-year-old and the teen had sex while others in the home slept. The girl’s parents were on a vacation at the time.

Cannelora, who was last working at Von Trapp’s, is out of jail on $50,000 bail after his arrest earlier this month. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

This just seems petty

in light of recent events

a 13 year old girl being raped is NEVER petty, no matter what other events are going on. Please don’t rank trauma. Trauma is trauma.

Matthew was a great bartender with a fun personality. We routinely hung out at Quinn’s and La B with him. Goes to show you never really know what people are struggling with in their private lives. Here’s hoping Matthew gets the professional help he needs.

Congratulations on condoning rape culture, 1st commenter and AKF. So what if he was a “great bartender”, you fucking idiot? Many, many sexual predators hide behind “pillar of the community” public facade. That’s the whole fucking point.
So much sympathy for a poor 13 year old CHILD that was plied with drink and then fucked. Jesus christ, people.

Despite what the person downthread thinks, I agree. He seemed like a great guy, so it’s that much harder to see that he did something terrible. I hope he and his victim both find the help and support they need. I don’t believe in monsters (unlike Paul down below, I guess), everybody deserves a chance at rehabilitation.

Derp. That was ‘sposed to be a reply to AKF.

I’m not saying he doesnt deserve a chance at rehabilitation, my point is that saying “he seems like a nice guy” reinforces the horrible patriarchy we live in that guys can be “really nice guys” but take advantage of vulnerable women/children. For reference, see: clergy.

AFK was merely mentioning that the times they spent time with Matthew he was fun to be around and seemed like a good guy. AFK then followed that up with “it goes to show that you never know a person” and that they hope Matthew gets the help he needs. I didn’t see anything from AFK excusing Matthew’s actions.

And for the record, people are complicated and contradictory. Matthew can be both a good, kind, generous person AND be capable of seducing an underage girl.

And just because I think it probably needs to be said: I’m not excusing his behavior, either. I just have a capacity to see people as they are: messy, complicated and damaged.

sweet!

Well, I for one hope that he never works anywhere again and has a horrible life!

U didn’t know the girl, or Matt but you have no problems or issues displotting people’s names AND businesses. Why throw Von Trapps under a bus when you in fact do not know enough about the situations you are creating by writing a blurb about it.

First, I think the word you’re looking for is exploit.

And who threw Von Trapp’s under the bus? It was stated as a simple fact that it was the last place Matthew worked for.

In fact, I read no judgements in the article. Only a simple statement of the facts.

What did you read?

I look forward to the “special relationship” he develops while in jail!

Whatever happened to “innocent before proven guilty”? I am not condoning these actions that Matt has been accused of but at least let the court figure this shit out. Obviously something went down and hopefully we can get to the bottom of it but who knows what the hell went on that night.

I wouldn’t put it past him.

Revel.

Let’s see how this pans out.

I can’t believe it.

who threw VonTrapps under the bus? By saying he worked there? That’s like saying they are attacking the hat industry because they mentioned he wore a hat. He worked at Von Trapps. there. said.

Im pretty sure, john, that they have confessions on both sides. At least thats what i read on the KOMO website.

[…] of Hate City group was arrested following this assault and this Capitol Hill bartender has been charged with rape for having sex with a 13-year-old […]

Hey,I’m a firm believer in the concept of innocent before proven guilty…. However, if you take the time to read the charging documents you will see that HE HAS ALREADY ADMITTED TO THE RAPE OF THIS 13 YEAR OLD GIRL. He also admits that he has struggled with sexual attraction to young girls and claims he has never acted upon those feelings. There’s your innocent until proven guilty right there. Perhaps this is the first time, perhaps not.

Who knows what the hell went on that night????? Ummm, everyone does now because it is explained in full detail. He does not deny anything. In fact, he confirms everything.

Anyone know what the court verdict was or what has become of Matthew?
