An impressive spring hail storm pelted Capitol Hill with ice pellets for more than 10 minutes Saturday just after 5 PM. The hailstorm apparently contributed to an injury incident on Summit Ave as a woman suffered a heady injury when a canopy outside Top Pot crashed down during the downpour.
Thanks to reader Chris for the information and picture from the scene. Seattle Fire responded to treat the woman’s non life-threatening injury.
Elsewhere on the Hill, the storm was a mostly harmless crescendo to what has been an unfortunately *freezing cold* weekend.

From Greg: “Out my back window. Hail so thick that you can see the channels created by the rain. This was taken right at the end of the cloudburst, next to SCCC.”
UPDATE 6:15 PM: We’re getting reports of power outages in multiple locations across the Hill including near Roy and Summit and near Eastlake. If you are without power (and remembered to charge your phone), let us know. Seattle City Light is currently showing no outages on its system status map. From reports thus far, Hill’s powerless range appears centered around the northwester stretches of the neighborhood. Meanwhile, other locations across the city are also without power.
UPDATE — 7:07 PM: Seattle City Light said around 15,000 customers were without power following an equipment failure. Many in the Capitol Hill area of the outages reported their power was restored earlier tonight. City Light said its most significant outages should be restored by 1 AM.
Power just went out here in Bellevue ct e. Anyone else without power?
Yup, it’s out on 10th ave and E Prospect too.
We have no power here – Bellevue Ave E and Mercer.
Back on for me as of about 10 minutes ago.
The streets on North Capitol Hill still show car tire tracks the same as a couple inch snowfall.
I hope Prospect is the southern boundary of that outage! I’m at Harvard and Aloha and I’m going to knock on wood because I have dinner in the microwave and power running it.
No power at summit and mercer either.
Just as I posted it came back on! Thanks CHS!
New service we offer. Hope you like it.
A friend of mine who lives near Harrison/Republican mentioned that a crane near there fell causing a thunderous boom. Anyone have info/pictures on this?
I walked by the crane at Belmont & Republican 5 minutes ago – it’s standing and looks fine. I heard the boom during the storm, but i thought it was thunder.
Those flowers are pretty shredded now. :(
That was taken about a minute after it first started.
The underwater lights on Lake Union are still out …sacre bleu!
a video I made of driving in the hail

looks to me like someone should be paying more attention to driving in a hailstorm, rather than using their phone to make a video.
hey, I’m not one driving! can’t you tell I’m on the right side :)
I had to hustle to bring my veggie starts and herbs in off the window ledge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ3IWhXhBXE
