It’s an all-ages weekend of Hill events with the Stevens Elementary annual carnival, an attempt at a world record for hopscotch, free admission to Seattle Art Museum for families, and no doubt more we don’t even know about.  Know of something happening this weekend for youngsters, families, oldsters, or families-of-choice?   • The annual Stevens Elementary Carnival brings the community together for a fun-filled, all-ages event. You’ll find food, traditional carnival games plus more unusual contests such as airplane toss, hoop shoot, nut cracker, nail hammering, a cake walk (my favorite!), and more. Stevens Elementary (1242 18 Ave E), 5 – 8p.
  • Poetry benefit for Tara Hardy, Richard Hugo House, 7 – 11p.
  •  Trope Opera by Interrupture. Interrupture is a group of experimental poets who create a physical performance combining aspects of a game and symphony direction. Hedreen Gallery at Seattle U (901 12th Ave), 7:30p.
  • Oregon Department of Kickass presents 30 Years of Vanessa Renwick. Renwick’s “films serve as both history lessons and searing contemporary portraits of our region’s peculiar wedding between urban and the natural landscapes.” One night only at Northwest Film Forum, 8p.

Saturday, June 1

  • hopscotchHopscotch the CD! A group of Central District neighbors have painted a 1.8 mile path of Hopscotch through the Central District for your hopping or walking pleasure. Along the route are activities, sights, sales and spectacles, plus a world record attempt at 12p. Check out the map and activities here. 9a – 6p.
  • Capitol Hill Clean Sweep:

    The Clean Sweep is an annual event produced by the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce that sends hundreds of community volunteers out into the neighborhood to clean the streets and show stewardship for the Capitol Hill neighborhood. This year’s event will happen on Saturday, June 1, starting at 10am at the Cal Anderson Park Shelterhouse –with breakfast and coffee provided by Starbucks – and ending at 12pm back at the Shelterhouse with lunch provide by Pagliacci Pizza.

  • Free admission for families to Seattle Asian Art Museum (located in Volunteer Park) every first Saturday of the month. A calligraphy drawing family activity is scheduled 11a – 2p.
  • La Petit Mort’s Dark Cabaret  includes modern dance, puppet, performance, strip tease, and more. Annex Theatre, 7:30p.
  • Vanish! Play capture the flag with glowsticks! All skill levels welcome, even newbies. Advanced ticket purchase recommended to ensure you have a spot. Volunteer Park, 8p – 11p.
  • Summer Solstice, a weekly R&B and soul night of music, starts this week at Bottleneck Lounge (2328 E Madison) 8p.
  • Let Your Light Shine: Experimental Animations by Jodie Mack, of which the main selection is Dusty Stacks of Mom which combines rock opera and abstract animation. Far out, man. One night only at Northwest Film Forum, 8p.

Sunday, June 2

  • Art Ache Market with live music at Chop Suey (1325 E Madison), 1 – 6p.
  • Happy 7 Years, Sun Liquor Lounge! In honor of the sevensies, The lounge is hosting the Skillet food truck in front and mixing up special $7 cocktails. Remember, the Lounge is the original Sun Liquor at 607 Summit Ave E. (Not the new-ish spot on E Pike.)  5 – 9p.
  • Songwriters Showcase happens every first Sunday of the month. It’s hosted by Eric Miller with special guests this month being local songwriters Tae Phoenix (it’s her birthday!) and Jeremy Summer. Hopvine Pub (507 15th Ave E), 7- 10p.
  • Help celebrate Weird and Awesome Emmett Montgomery‘s 35th birthday at his monthly variety show at Annex Theatre, 7p.
  • MOVE is  an open forum, non-judgmental open-mic night. People encouraged to push boundaries; the hosts also encourage those who do not regularly perform to give it a try. Anything goes, it sounds like. Gallery 1412 (1412 18th Ave), 7p.
  • Ghosts of Piramida is a music documentary which follows the Danish band Efterklang as they travel to an abandoned Russian town in search of inspiration. Seattle premier screening and one night only at Northwest Film Forum, 7p and 9p.
  • Seattle Peace Chorus’ spring concert features music from Canto General. Town Hall, 7:30 – 9:30p.

Capitol Hill Clean Sweep on Saturday, June 1st! Cal Anderson Park, 10AM. We provide coffee, brooms, pizza and sunshine!
