On Friday, September 18, people in cities around the world including Seattle will temporarily convert on-street parking spaces into public spaces for the annual PARK(ing) Day event. Seattle’s ninth-annual PARK(ing) Day runs from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. with participation in neighborhoods throughout the city.

For this year’s event, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has issued permits for more than 50 pop-up installations—the largest participation to date.

“Seattle is already innovating new uses for our right-of-way with parklets and sidewalk cafes in places in need of more open space,” said Mayor Ed Murray. “PARK(ing) Day lets folks experiment with other ideas to see what really connects with people.”

Beyond Park(ing) Day, the city says there are currently eight parklets and streateries installed across Seattle and another 13 in planning phases.

Saturday, the Volunteer Park Conservatory fall plant sale benefits the amazing greenhouse facility and gives you the opportunity to give your green thumb another chance.

Sunday is busy. The Capitol Hill Farmers Market celebrates its 10th anniversary with “live music, sweet birthday treats and free market giveaways” while the Volunteer Park Trust needs your help cleaning up the park. You can wind down with an afternoon of vintage games on First Hill.
