Protestors filled Sea-Tac airport in 2017 to denounce a Trump administration immigration order
Thursday, Seattle Congresswoman Rep. Pramila Jayapal was arrested as part of a mass protest along with Women’s March organizers in Washington, D.C. “against President Trump’s family separation policies.” She vowed to be back on the street as part of a nationwide protest Saturday against the situation at the country’s southern border.
Seattle’s component of the Families Belong Together protests is set to take place outside the SeaTac Detention Center. With the detention center’s location within walking distance of the Angle Lake light rail station, expect Capitol Hill Station to be busy with activists Saturday:

CHS readers who work and commute through downtown also want you to know about ongoing daily vigils outside the 2nd Ave offices of the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials here in Seattle.
“Many of us are here from 8 to 10 am every workday, but we encourage people to come any time between 8am and 6 pm, or later,” they write. “Bring your friends. Bring a sign if you can. Our goal is to be a constant visual reminder that we repudiate ICE’s/CBP’s activities. Our presence is peaceful and we are not engaging in civil disobedience.”
Meanwhile, the protests against the administration’s immigration policies will also mean the next step in a more local activist battle will be delayed. Socialist Alternative Seattle announced Thursday that its “Tax Amazon Movement” workshop planned for Saturday will be rescheduled “in favor of mobilizing in full to the action at the federal detention center in Sea-Tac.”
