Broadway bank robbery suspect doesn’t make it far before arrest — UPDATE

A hold-up at the Broadway Chase bank ended up with an arrest only a few blocks away on Harvard Ave Thursday morning.

Police were called to a hold-up alarm at the Broadway at Thomas bank around 11:20 AM and began searching for the suspect last seen fleeing the area on foot.

SPD says the robbery suspect handed over a note demanding cash. Police could not yet say whether the suspect was armed during the hold-up or if he made off with cash.

Arriving officers quickly spotted the suspect nearby on Harvard Ave and took him into custody. A witness was able to identify the man as the suspect in the robbery, according to East Precinct updates.

SPD said the suspect was still being interviewed by detectives and had not yet been booked into jail.

There were no reported injuries. Police were also searching for personal items taken in the robbery.

UPDATE: SPD says the suspect confessed to another area bank robbery in June:

On 10-21-2021 at 1120 hours, a suspect entered a bank and handed the teller a note demanding money. The note indicated that the suspect was armed with a gun. The teller told the suspect she had to go to the vault and walked away. The suspect waited at the window until he heard approaching sirens and then walked out of the bank. Responding officers located the suspect and he was arrested without incident. this suspect is also responsible for a bank robbery on 6/29/21. (2021-162647) Detective interviewed the suspect at headquarters where he confessed to both bank robberies.
