‘Rally to Defend Abortion Rights’ planned for Cal Anderson

Cal Anderson Park will be a gathering point Saturday as part of nationwide rallies and marches for abortion rights.

Women’s March organizers are calling for a weekend of action in advance of November’s midterm elections. The march starting on Capitol Hill is being organized by the Seattle Democratic Socialists of America with plans to gather in the park at 1 PM.

Cal Anderson has served as a busy centerpoint for protests and marches that have formed in Seattle as the Supreme Court ruled to reverse Roe vs. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion.

In August, Mayor Bruce Harrell signed a suite of abortion protection legislation into law in the city including legislation from District 3’s Kshama Sawant directing the Seattle Police Department and the City Attorney Ann Davison “to refrain from cooperating with out-of-state law enforcement agencies or other entities about abortion-related matters,” according to a statement from the council.

Thank you, Jseattle, for continuing to report on reproductive rights even though no one ever comments on these articles. It’s extremely important that we all show up for this cause as it does affect us all and is a harbinger of ever dwindling freedom

Sawant is dusting off her megaphone for the photo op. Performative work that doesn’t do a damn thing is her specialty. Too bad she has no interest in District 3. Too bad the young, idealistic new arrivals fall for her shtick and we are stuck with her. District 3 hasn’t had representation on City Council for 10 years and it shows. Other than these types of rallies, she is MIA.

Right? What does she actually…do?? My favorite is when she actively campaigned against Hillary and then grabbed the bullhorn at the first march against Trump on Capitol Hill. Her hypocrisy is astonishing.

I would probably be willing to attend one of these but I just can’t with all the “capitalism is evil” and “womxn” fringe elements. And if Sawant makes an appearance, I prefer to be as far as possible from her intolerant, single-minded followers.

I know, right?

If I expressed my support in this crowd with a sign reading “Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare” they would tear me limb from limb.

Haha, hyperbole much? 🙄 Commenting on your point though, why do you feel like you need to have an opinion on the decision between a medical provider giving best practices and their patients? Abortion is already rate and nobody I’ve spoken to is advocating for abortions for funsies, they just want modern healthcare for all 🤷🏻‍♂️
