520 Montlake Project will bring weekend bridge closures for cars, 10-day boulevard shutdown

WSDOT’s “Construction Corner” is a handy way to keep track of closures

The next few weeks will bring some traffic challenges around 520 as the Washington Department of Transportation project to replace the highway and add a new Montlake lid will require prolonged closures in the area.

WSDOT says starting the night of Friday, July 14th, Montlake Blvd will be closed to motor vehicles for ten days as crews complete utility work and realign the Boulevard and the eastbound on-ramp to SR 520 onto the newly constructed bridge. All associated 520 on-and off-ramps for Montlake Blvd will be closed during this time as well. WSDOT says a signed bicycle and pedestrian route through the work area during the closure.

That long closure will be joined by shutdowns of the bridge in both directions over the next two weekends. From the 15th to the 17th, the bridge will close across Lake Washington in both directions between I-5 in Seattle and 92nd Ave NE in Clyde Hill. From the 21st to the 24th, the same stretch will be closed to cars again.

During the work, the 520 trail will remain open for walkers and bikers.

WSDOT says the $455.3 million Montlake Project remains on schedule for late 2023/early 2024 completion.

Any news on how busses will be affected during the closure (e.g., 271)?

Curious too. Assuming they are going via NE 45th to I-5 to 520 like a month or so ago, will most likely be an even bigger mess for bus passengers.
