As it joins in a fight to push back on the outmoded and misguided policies of “lewd conduct” enforcement, Capitol Hill’s Queer/Bar family of LGBTQIA+ bars and clubs is getting ready for a party and a 2024 Pride celebration of being seen and heard across the country.
Continuing efforts to grow its annual Pride party to join with celebrations at other nearby venues into a weekend neighborhood street party across Pike/Pine, the Queer/Pride Festival has announced its 2024 lineup including Tegan and Sara, Santigold, Rico Nasty, and Perfume Genius.
“Our mission is to create a safe and fun space for our Pacific Northwest lgbtqiak+ community to celebrate our culture, honor our history, strengthen our unity, and recognize our diversity,” Joey Burgess said in the announcement this week on the acts planned to headline this year’s party on 11th Ave. “We strive to generate Queer visibility throughout our festival, Seattle, and the nation,” Burgess said.
CHS reported here in 2023 on the effort to grow Queer/Pride as a three-day music festival of near Capitol Hill Block Party proportions. Organizers point out that street festival and the beer gardens at neighborhood bars take up a much smaller footprint than the annual Block Party but the growth of the three-day, ticketed event is undeniable.
The larger Queer/Pride Festival began taking shape in 2022 as Capitol Hill’s Pride events got back on track following years of pandemic cancellations and rescheduling. In 2024, the festival will again be part of beer gardens, stages, and parties throughout Pike/Pine as other elements like the annual Broadway street fair have also returned.
Burgess with his husband and business partner, Murf, own many of “Capitol Hill’s most recognized businesses,” including Elliott Bay Book Company, Oddfellows/Little Oddfellows, Queer/Bar, and the Cuff Complex.
They recently joined with other club and bar owners to successfully protest “lewd conduct” enforcement efforts by the Washington State Liquor Control Board and Seattle Police that targeted gay bars. The liquor board has since announced it would issue no citations after the incidents and said it was suspending lewd conduct enforcement indefinitely as officials consider rules changes to address concerns around bias and targeting.
The ticketed Queer/Pride Festival will take place June 28th through June 30th. The full announcement on the 2024 edition is below. Learn more at queerpridefestival.com.

Man this feels like future pride’s are going to be blocked off from Capitol Hill residents like the CHBP.
Looks like this year I’ll be sticking to CC’s, Crescent and Union.
It’s sad, I remember when I moved here ten years ago and pride was pretty much free for the happy hour crowd then covers got charged after 8pm.
think of it as VH1 Pride Seattle addition. Plus it’s a music festival on capital hill, that is centered around pride. I don’t think it’s anything pride official…. If it is, shame on that line up! No people of color!
there are literally at least 5 POC listed on the poster.
Every year people can’t see the stage and the audio sucks- every year they say “we’re working on it!”. At the end of the day it’s a scam and not everybody will be able to enjoy the event.
Pretty decent lineup!
Pride was supposed to be for us gay folks, all of us, not just the ones who can afford a pricy ticket. The commercialization of Pride has claimed our festival, and made it into something else. Very demoralizing.
Is there really a problem with “queer visibility” on the hill?
