After eight years of grinding it out and creating a “magical place” to drink and hang out on North Broadway, Izzy Guymon and Paul Berryman are moving on from their Capitol Hill creation and handing Corvus and Co. over to new owners.
“To our customers and the North Broadway neighborhood that have made Corvus the magical place it is (and will continue to be)- ‘Thank you’ for embracing us. It’s all we could have asked for and more, and truly the realization of a lifelong dream,” they write in their announcement of the sale. “The friends, relationships and shared experiences cultivated in this space mean everything, and we’re extremely thankful and want you to know just how very much this means to us.”
It isn’t exactly seasonal but spring can bring a small rush of ownership changes as paperwork and licenses following agreements made at the end of the previous year play out. Another Capitol Hill bar changing hands has reopened this week under new ownership — and a new name. Rose Temple is now The Wash on E Olive Way under a set of new first-time owners.
There will also be rookie owners on Broadway. The new owners at Corvus are married team of first time food and drink entrepreneurs Liv Cruzat and Nick Crowley. The couple have a busy summer ahead. They say they are also expecting their first child.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better couple to continue the ethos of Corvus, and we’re throwing all of our support and well wishes behind them as Corvus continues to be a loving home away from home for our staff and community friends,” Guymon and Berryman said.
Corvus was, of course, also born of a food and drink transaction. In 2015, hospitality veterans Guymon and Berryman purchased the business behind The Byzantion as the Broadway Greek joint ended its 30-year run on Capitol Hill. They built out the new bar with a lot of work by their own hands — and maybe a little inspiration from Linda Derschang’s joints where Guymon had worked previously.
Originally to be called Spirit Animal to evoke a “slightly mystical” vibe, community pushback inspired a last-minute name shuffle.
In May of 2016, Corvus and Co. was born. The CHS Crow approved.
Now, eight years later, the bar moves on under new ownership. We’ll catch up with the new owners to find out more about their plans. It doesn’t look like another name change is in the works but you never know.
Stop by Thursday night when they’re planning a last bash under Guymon and Berryman and will introduce Cruzat and Crowley. Corvus and Co. is located at 601 Broadway E. Learn more at corvusandcompany.com.

My wife and I were married there the day before the city shut down from the pandemic. We have had so many great memories made at Corvus and are sad to see Paul and Izzy go as they have become family to us. We hope the future of our favorite around-the-corner spot is successful and maintains the spooky vibe and staff that has made it so cozy for the neighborhood.
