Capitol Hill and Madison Valley are waking up to Sleepless City Donuts

If you are lucky enough to live somewhere around Madison Valley and Capitol Hill, you can enjoy Sleepless City Donuts, a handmade brioche donut pop-up that is helping customers leap out of bed with excitement on pick-up day.

Founder Enos Lewis says feedback shapes the rotating menu. “I thought raspberry was going to take the cake, but banana crème was a community favorite,” Lewis said.

Lewis along with girlfriend and co-owner Arriana Fitts began have worked to perfect their brioche recipe and started to grow with the help of Facebook foodie groups.

Each batch takes 48 hours to perfect, resulting in light, airy, and flavorful donuts. Lewis aims for a donut that is “soft and springy but not chewy,” achieved through quality ingredients and meticulous proofing.

With pickup spots in the Madison and Capitol Hill neighborhoods, The Sleepless City Donuts menu includes: Strawberry Rhubarb Banana Cream Pie, White Chocolate Matcha, Espresso, Lavender Marionberry, Fruity Pebbles, Cookies and Cream, and Raspberry Cream.

Pop-up hours are from 10 AM to 12 PM on weekends, and pre-orders open on Mondays. After selecting a location and weekend day, you show up, say your name, and Lewis hands off your order.

Sometimes, donut mistakes become a bonus. Lewis and Fitts give out boxes during weekend pick-up when there are extras. “We don’t sell reject donuts; if they aren’t perfectly round, proofed at the correct height, or don’t have the color we’re looking for, they go into our ‘give away’ boxes,” Lewis said.

Lewis and Fitts hope to eventually open a permanent location for Sleepless City Donuts while staying true to their philosophy one donut at a time.

“Qu’ils mangent de la brioche” probably never said by Marie-Antoinette, but now suggested by a box of 6 donuts at $30 each.

Krispy Kreme’s dozen is $17 now. Let’s blame the businesses for setting the price of donuts so high instead of blaming consumers for participating in the economy.

The “low-price” option of the economy no longer exists in Seattle, which is the biggest problem.

Let’s blame businesses for charging what their inputs (food ingredients and labor) require?

You realize that’s nearly 1/4 the price right… At Safeway donuts are $1 each.

For the love of god, can we please just get a Dunkin Donuts here? I’ve tried these over priced donuts and nothing is better than a box of munchkins or a chocolate covered lemon from Dunkin. We really need a place where you can buy a dozen delicious donuts for under $60. Plus, their storefronts are actually kind of cute.

Top pot doughnuts are $28 for a dozen. That’s not too bad.

Find and excuse to go on a little jaunt up to Canada… it’s not Dunkin but donuts at Tim Hortons are ¢60 a piece after the exchange rate…
