There were no reported injuries in a shootout involving at least two vehicles and a possible shooter on foot near 23rd and Cherry Thursday night.
Police rushed to the area after multiple callers reported gunfire just after 8 PM. Police reported finding multiple shell casings south of the intersection but no victims.
According to East Precinct radio updates, witnesses described two silver sedans involved in the incident and a possible additional gunman reported opening fire in the exchange.
Police later found a bullet-damaged Mercedes parked behind a nearby church and detained two men seen leaving the area on foot. No firearms were immediately recovered but a K9 unit was being called to the scene to search for a gun possibly ditched in the area. It isn’t clear if either of the detained men were arrested.
A search for additional suspects was not successful.
Streets in the area were closed during the response. Police were gathering evidence including security video in the area.

We need to ban guns. American’s clearly cannot handle having guns and the government is clearly not capable of controlling gun violence.
We also need to find a way to stem the massive flow of arms from the police and military to the street. A ban on the public won’t be enough.
The issue is the gangs.
How did this post from 1983 appear in this thread in 2024? Get a clue. Guns kill people everyday in a million ways; suicide, accident, mass shooting, gang violence, used in robberies, assaults, killing police, etc… and their legal purpose is what again? My fellow Americans, figure it out!
The gangs need to spend more time at the shooting range, and stop shooting off like scared little bitches.

I believe there was also a shooting with no injuries near 23rd and yesler on either 7/31 or 8/1 (can’t remember) according to a couple of neighbors, but I haven’t seen anything about it in the news. Thanks for reporting on this. It is important to know what is going on and back in the day I relied on CD News for these things.
