  • Pine delivery van shooting: Police say a delivery driver shot a man trying to steal his van early Saturday outside Pine’s PIVOT Apartments. According to SPD’s report on the 4:45 AM incident, the driver was coming back out of the building when he found the suspect inside the delivery van and ready to speed away. Police say the victim pulled out a handgun and opened fire as the suspect struck him with the van as he tried to speed from the scene. The victim was able to track the van a few blocks away where police found it parked near a downtown hotel with the suspect bleeding inside and multiple bullet holes in the van. Seattle Fire was called to the scene where its crew treated the suspect for a gunshot wound to the chest before transporting him to Harborview. The victim was not reported seriously injured in the melee.
  • Boren hit and run crash arrest: A driver was arrested for investigation of hit and run after fleeing an early Saturday two-vehicle crash that left one of the cars rolled over and injured multiple occupants. Police were called to Boren and E Fir just after 1:30 AM to the crash scene:

The driver and passenger of the rolled vehicle were on scene with unknown serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the other vehicle fled the scene. WSP was on scene and said the suspect vehicle had fled from a traffic stop that they conducted further south on Rainier Ave. WSP did not pursue and did not follow but happened upon the crash as they continued north on Rainier Ave while driving routinely. Officers and WSP worked together to determine that the R/O of the suspect vehicle was its driver.

A short time later, police learned that a person matching the suspect’s description had walked into Swedish Cherry Hill Hospital with serious injuries. Police say the driver in the other vehicle suffered broken bones from the crash. Officers went to Swedish, confirmed the suspect’s identity and arrested them for Felony Hit and Run. The suspect remained under guard at Swedish.

Since vehicles are multi-ton murdering machines, the owner was well within his rights to defend himself when attacked by one.
