  • Woman suffers burns: Seattle Fire says a woman suffered serious injuries in a Wednesday morning apartment fire above the 23rd and Madison Safeway. 911 callers reported the incident just before 11 AM. Seattle Fire says the fire in the sixth floor unit was put out by sprinklers but the occupant suffered burns in the incident. SFD rushed the woman to Harborview in serious condition. The streets around the building including 23rd Ave were blocked by emergency vehicles responding to the incident. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
  • DV stabbing: Seattle Police say a man was stabbed in the hand and bit on the face in a Tuesday morning domestic violence incident. SPD says it took a woman into custody in the just before 7 AM incident for investigation of domestic violence assault. Police were called to 14th Ave where they found the man suffering from a puncture wound and with a bite mark on his face. “Victim reported that he and his girlfriend were up drinking when the suspect began to get aggressive and assaulted him,” SPD reports.
  • DV taser arrest: Police say they had to use an electric taser on a suspect holding a baby in a domestic violence dispute Monday night on Capitol Hill. SPD says police were called to the incident just before midnight. “The suspect was holding the couple’s 1-month-old baby and refused to give the child to officers or SFD acknowledging he was doing so to prevent arrest,” SPD reports. “During the incident, the baby was removed from the suspect’s hands and a struggle afterwards ensued. During the struggle, a taser was deployed with desired effect on the suspect and he was taken into custody.” Police say the suspect was taken to Harborview for complaints of chest pain before being booked for investigation of domestic violence assault. There were no additional injuries reported.
  • SPD warns on package theft: The Seattle Police departments has put out a reminder that “The Season of Mail and Package Theft” has arrived:

On Tuesday afternoon dispatchers received reports of a United State Postal Service (USPS) truck that was broken into at 42nd Avenue Southwest and Southwest Graham Street in West Seattle.

Officers arrived and contacted the mail carrier. The carrier said she was on foot, making deliveries just after 12:30 p.m., when someone broke into her locked truck.

The mail carrier said she was walking back to her delivery truck when she was approached by a man. The man told her he saw a woman remove two full trays of mail from inside of the truck then before driving away in a white SUV.

The carrier told police that there have been a series of these type of mail truck break-ins over the last few days. It is believed the suspect(s) have a key which allows them gain entry to the mail trucks. The suspect was not found in the area and is still outstanding.

Around the holiday season, we typically see an increase in mail & package thefts. To reduce your risk, we recommend the following prevention tips:

    • Sign up for USPS Informed Delivery – https://www.usps.com/manage/informed-delivery.htm

    • Track your mail and packages

    • Arrange to have packages shipped to another location, where someone can receive it

    • Require a signature upon delivery

    • Pick up items from the carrier’s local shipping facility

    • If none of the above are viable options- at the very least, request packages be placed in a discrete location not visible from the street
