2025’s anti-Trump protests are smaller, low-conflict, frequent, and have great signs — Another marched on Broadway Saturday

The latest in a year of smaller, more local, low-conflict protests focused on messaging against the second Trump administration filled the Seattle Central plaza and Broadway Saturday.

The Capitol Hill rally and march was part of a national day of “Hands Off” protests across the country and up and down the Puget Sound. It was also part of multiple demonstrations in the city itself as groups like Seattle Indivisible have kept a steady drum beat of protests in motion with frequent, nearly weekly gatherings centered in neighborhoods and cities across the region instead of attempting larger rallies in Seattle.

Keeping track of the smaller events has been sometimes a challenge for those wanting to get involved and sort out if a planned protest will have a healthy turnout.

Saturday’s Capitol Hill rally at Seattle Central and march to the nearby Mexican Consulate was largely organized and promoted by the tiny Capitol Hill Pride Festival group under the banner of the planned national day of protest. The same organizers have been denied permits for Pride events but have tenaciously remained a part of the neighborhood’s activist scene.

Saturday’s turnout was robust and a spirited crowd of more than 1,000 filled Broadway with signs and chants. Organizers had modest goals saying 1,000 cans of donated food were collected.

Will next week bring another demonstration against Trump and his administration’s erosion of the federal government to Capitol Hill? The odds are good. We’ll have to check with the city’s loose collective of neighborhood organizers to find out.

Lol the left is just made up of theater kids. Unable to accomplish anything. Sad.

There are lots of centrists participating, and it still beats the hell out of enabling fascism by ignoring it (looking at you, Mr.sarcasm with nothing to offer).

Rome wasn’t built (or destroyed) in a day….

You know someone is a fascist when they can’t tell the difference between Liberals, Progressives, Leftists, and a possum

We will both have the same effect. Actually, my actions don’t make a bunch of normies hate the left and continue to vote R.

You’re hooting and hollering for the ‘get-er-done’ kidnappings to CECOT in El Salvador, from your couch?

The positive spirit at this event was truly great. It felt very grassroots and heartfelt.

Maybe a bit more focus on signs instead of uncovered faces…just sayin’…

If someone is out in public, whether they’re protesting or shopping in a grocery store, they have no right to privacy.

We are Seattle and we lead the nation.

SPD’s POET (Police Outreach Engagement Team) placed the attendance at 2,500 so not sure why this article is minimizing the march to 1,000.

Great photos but noticed no photos of the Speakers, Stage, Native American Drummer, March banner at the Mexican Consulate, the Sit-In/Die-In or the 1,000 cans of food donated.
