The man shot and killed in a First Hill apartment building early Wednesday morning has been identified as police continue to search for the gunman seen fleeing from the scene.
The King County Medical Examiner says 40-year-old David Chuyeshkov died early Wednesday inside First Hill’s Tuscany Apartments of injuries from a gunshot wound to the torso.
The Seattle Police Department has declined to release more information on the slaying citing the “open and active homicide investigation.”
UPDATE: A person with knowledge of the situation said that Chuyeshkov was not a resident of the building but that a ground floor unit had become a “drug squat” with regular trespassers.
CHS reported here on the deadly shooting as police were called to the Seneca at Summit building just before 1:45 AM to reports of someone yelling to call 911 followed by a report of gunfire.
Arriving officers found Chuyeshkov down inside the unit and reportedly suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. Witnesses reported a male fleeing from the scene. He was described as a black male, wearing all black clothing with a bicycle. Police were checking nearby nearby hospitals for the possibly injured suspect or possible additional victims but none were located. A person with a reported grazing bullet wound to the shoulder was also being treated at the scene, according to radio updates but SPD would not confirm those details. Seattle Fire says it is not aware of another person injured at the scene.
Residents say they had complained to property management about drug activity at the building.
Chuyeshkov had been wanted on several warrants. A November case saw him charged with unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree, violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act, Malicious Mischief, and possession of a stolen vehicle after he was busted in a stolen KIA with what police said was meth and drug dealing supplies — plus a handgun with no serial number.
Chuyeshkov, who turned 40 in March and had lived across the area including recently on Beacon Hill, E Olive Way last year, and Mercer Island in the past according to various court records over the years, was difficult to pin down by the system.
Prosecutors noted he was wanted on three different warrants when they filed charges in November and had a record showing 73 different warrants since his first conviction as an adult for robbery in 2004.
Chuyeshkov had recently given the system the slip.
In January while the legal process played out in the November drug and firearm case, the King County Correctional Facility issued a notice of violation after Chuyeshkov took off his monitor mere minutes after he had entered into its Electronic Home Detention at an 18th Ave S address.
“These alerts in conjunction with one another indicate that Mr. Chuyeshkov has removed his tracker and his whereabouts can no longer be verified,” the report reads. “Mr. Chuyeshkov was on the program for less than one hour.”
Police have asked for the public’s help in solving the slaying. Anyone with information is asked to call the Seattle Police Departmentβs Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.

Our legal system is wild. Arrested for 5 things in November, and had current 3 warrants for him already (on top of 73 in his past) and he was out by January? Good lord. How about we deport people like this to other jails countries and leave all the nice illegal Mexican cooks and maids who don’t bother anyone else and just want to live their lives alone, eh?
On an ankle monitor that he took off less than an hour from the time it was put on⦠some people simply are not suited to living in society.
that what jails are for!
You’re advocating exporting to horror jails in El Salvador???
SPD and our court system are useless again. Sure, the public will do their jobs for them, please! Residents were telling them where he is if they bothered to answer the calls.
SPD has nothing to due with the court system!! Voting matters!!
Shhhh they have to blame the cops for everything. It makes them feel better.
Does anyone know the name of these judge(s) with such harmful kid gloves?
isn’t it time to hold them responsible for gross incompetence and their willingness to put public safety at such irresponsible risk?
It’s fairly easy to look up records in Seattle through the Sea/KC courts websites if you have the defendants name. This case has Judge Keenan listed as the official.
Thats pretty cool – didnt know about that.
Tuscany’s proximity to the THS methadone clinic across the street doesn’t help either. I remember apartment hunting some years ago and the THS clinic across the street was enough to avoid the entire area. Complete and utter shitshow just about every weekday morning.
Amen!
