SPD: Officer helps pull person in crisis back onto Broadway apartment building rooftop

A police officer who happened to stop at a Broadway traffic light as a woman struggled to keep her suicidal partner from leaping from a nearby building was able to race to the roof of the five-story apartment complex and help the woman lift the subject back to safety.

The Seattle Police Department reports the incident happened near Broadway and Jefferson just before 8:30 PM Wednesday:

At 2029 hours, an Officer was stopped at a traffic light at Broadway/Jefferson. She heard faint distant yelling and observed a citizen on the street look up towards the roof of the 5th floor apartment building and then look at her. The Officer looked up and saw an individual hanging from the ledge of the rooftop.

According to the report on the incident, the officer quickly radioed the situation in, gained access to the building and ran to the roof where she helped the woman pull the subject back to safety.

The person suffering a crisis was detained by the officer until other officers arrived to help calm the situation and the subject could be transported to the hospital for care.

There were no reported significant injuries.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, help is available. Call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or the Washington Warm Line at 1-800-500-9276.

So much bravery here! Rescuing a jumper is extremely dangerous work and I am impressed that this police officer did not hesitate to do that work. You deserve a medal!

“ACAB unless they do something you appreciate?”
Great job! He could have pretended not to see it and just drive by but he stopped and ran up to save that persons life. Awesome!

No. The number of people who actually hate “all cops” may be vocal but a tiny fraction of a percent of the 800K Seattle residents.

Anyone who says “all <insert group>” are bad are idiots. Of course that isn’t true. All cops aren’t bad. All black people aren’t criminals. All Republicans aren’t Nazis or in the KKK. Yes there are people in those groups who do those things, but that’s not everyone. Broad stroke statements are always b.s. and should be treated as such.
