Or, as @galenward put it in bringing the situation to our attention, Google says Broadway is “dead” between Republican and Harrison.
As far as we can tell, directions using the Google system will still route you on the missing street chunk.
It’s not the first weird thing we’ve seen show up on Google maps but it’s one of our favorites so far and right up there with the sudden appearance of the oft-use CHS label for 15th Ave “Hilltop” suddenly appearing as a label for the area on the online giant’s third-party provided mapping info.
We’ll see what we can find out from GOOG support about the flub. Maybe the famous Google self-driving car got stuck in streetcar traffic.
Google must be a La Puerta fan. Isn’t that section of the street in the same spot? In Google’s world, no La Puerta = no Broadway.
Just one block? Back in February, dozens went missing! https://twitter.com/#!/J2XL/media/slideshow?url=pic.twitter.com%2FEfld9HHj
My fave google map directions is still Tokyo to Beijing. “Jet ski across China Sea…..”
I found the “Pier 55 Walk” rather amusing: http://goo.gl/maps/5oKt5
QFC also jumped across the street, and the Joule is experiencing some sort of space invader attack.
…is now on the wrong side of Broadway too!
I suspect this is all about QFC aquiring the liquor store space in order to sell more liquor. Capitol Hill is like a giant game of Go and Broadway was just unfortunate collateral damage. But maybe this will be the new terminus for the streetcar? It certainly would calm traffic…
Remember all those worries about the Sound Transit tunnel collapsing buildings? Google and be frighteningly up-to-the-second at times…
