Hugo House: Don’t forget: Wednesday night brings what should be the final design review for the six-story development slated to replace today’s Hugo House with a new apartment project and writing center for the literary nonprofit to call home. The meeting of the East Design Review Board also brings another Capitol Hill project to the table with an interesting story.
601 E Pike: Slated to replace the old garage that was just torn down at Pike and Belmont, this six-story, 60-unit apartment project will return to the review board with a bold, shiny new look.
After buying the property and development project this summer for $6.2 million, developer Solterra Cities is moving the proposed building forward with a total overhaul of the exterior concept of the building that appears to be more in line with the company’s urban and environmentally focused- brand:

GARBAGE. The 601 E. Pike project looks like garbage. Crumpled and left on the side of the road. Sorry, but give me the before picture any day. Enough with the crazy gimmicks.
Love the new design! Big improvement over the the old cookie cutter box
That cladding with fins will be difficult to keep clean in our PNW environment. I hope they build in a good budget for maintenance.
Gentrification kills the cool things.
Yep, it sure did kill a cool thing. I will miss that old garage that used to be used to store a bunch of Mercedes. RIP cool Mercedes-garage :'(
Yup, so sad to see the 15 space Diamond parking lot being swept away by all of this gentrification – it has been a such a longstanding pillar of the Hill community…
