- 4th of July Cal Anderson concert crowds: East Precinct cops were not big fans of this year’s edition of the annual Anti-Fash Fourth Bash concert in Cal Anderson Park. SPD reports officers faced “an angry crowd of 150-200” as police responded to a reported overdose victim and said they found “an illegally carried firearm in a jacket pocket.” The victim was revived and police say they escorted the subject in custody and Seattle Fire from the scene. Police say Seattle Fire required another escort 20 minutes later when a second overdose was reported. SPD reports “park goers started donning gas masks despite SPD’s only action being escorting medical personnel to an unconscious person.” There were no additional reported arrests and SPD did not report deploying any crowd control measures.
- More 4th shenanigans: SPD says Pike/Pine nightlife also kept them busy on the 4th. At one point in the night, police were called to deal with a woman who had been denied entry to a bar “and subsequently assaulted security and was handcuffed by them.” Police say the woman then “attempted to kick and bite officers, and several officers were required to respond to the scene due to heavy crowds.” She was taken to jail to be booked but SPD says the woman was rejected on medical condition because of her scraped knees. Meanwhile, near the scene of the arrest, SPD reports someone tossed “a large explosive or firework” into crowds, damaging a vehicle near 10th and Pike. East Precinct cops were also reportedly busy that night helping at Harborview with Washington State Patrol, Tacoma Police Department “and other precincts who had victims or injured parties transported there,” SPD says.
- Safeway shoplifter arrest: Police chased down a suspect Tuesday morning alleged to have assaulted a loss prevention officer at the 22nd and Madison Safeway after trying to steal “several Laundry Detergent containers and Air Fragrance valued over $150.” SPD reports that police were attempting to take the suspect into custody around 9 AM when he fled on foot. He was chased down about two blocks away hiding in some bushes. SPD says the suspect was taken to Harborview to have reported “prior injuries” medically evaluated before he could be booked into jail.
- Judkins Park gunfire damage: Police investigated reported early morning gunfire Monday near Judkins Park:
At 0530 hours, Officers responded to a report of 5 to 6 shots heard in the area of S Elmwood PL / S Judkins St. Officers arrived but initially could not locate a scene. After some time had passed officers were called back to investigate damage to a upper duplex. Officers met with the RP and found that an upper window to the duplex was broken and appx 4 bullet holes in the interior bedroom wall. No one inside the unit were injured and the RP suspected that his juvenile son may have been targeted. - Warrant suspect busted after fight with officers: Police checking the boarded-up Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church at Harvard and Howell for trespassers Sunday night got into a fight with one suspect as another was able to flee:
At 2030 hours, East Precinct officers on patrol noticed two suspects on the stairs of a church. When officers contacted them for trespassing and narcotics use, the female fled, and the male attempted to flee. Officers fought with the male suspect, where he attempted to take hold of an officer’s holstered handgun and caused knee injury to another officer. He was taken into custody, and the Investigation found the suspect is on DOC supervision for failure to register as a sex offender, had a warrant for this, as well as a Snohomish County warrant for motor vehicle theft.
Police say the injured officer was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire. The female suspect was last seen fleeing the area on Howell on an electric scooter. - Interlaken break-in: A man suffering a drug or medical crisis was taken into custody Sunday after a large police response to the reported break-in at a home above Interlaken Park. More than a dozen officers responded to the reported Sunday afternoon occupied burglary in the 1900 block of E Crescent after the home’s occupant reported returning to the house and finding a man who refused to leave inside. Police surrounded the home and searched the large residence floor by floor before finally contacting the man and calling Seattle Fire to the scene for a possible overdose.
- Windshield wiper vandal vs. tire iron fight: Police were called to a fight near 10th and Pine last week involving a man reportedly “pulling windshield wipers off cars and another person fighting them with a tire iron.” SPD reports the Thursday, July 10th incident started around 4:15 PM. “Officers arrived and contacted both parties who were no longer fighting or holding weapons,” SPD says. “While interviewing both parties one party suddenly assaulted an officer.” SPD reports the suspect was placed under arrest for investigation of assault and property damage. It’s not clear which of the subjects ended up in custody but there was only one reported arrest. SPD says the injured officer did not require medical care.

RE: the Cal Anderson incident. It sounds like the SPD was simply doing their job by escorting the medics to deal with the overdose. Why all the hostility from the crowd? Is this another example of the “ACAB” mentality?
or mistreatment as a pattern that triggered 13 years of oversite.
They might be smarter than you it seems.
Overdosing with an illegal gun in your pocket. My kind of party!
all one of them had a gun. 1/150th.
But okay…it’s a crime spree right?
