Long ago, when this site was a smaller, simpler effort, CHS had already developed a fascination with the environment that shapes day to day life on the Hill. Back then, we featured a set of photos showing a few buildings on 15th Ave E as they looked in present day and as they looked in the past. It is not only nostalgia. Being able to see how the environment has changed — and has not changed — through the years gives us context. And, with context, we can make better decisions about what should come next.
We were excited to find out from neighbor Geoff that he recently added an expanded set of images to his project to document the “before and after” of 15th Ave E. Take a tour through to see the way our environment has grown, how much of it we have inherited and how much is left to build — and sometimes rebuild. We’re looking forward to technology that allows us to see every block of Capitol Hill this way. In the meantime, thanks, Geoff, for sharing your work.

That was awesome! I love when you post stuff on Cap Hill history. This bunch of photos has some pretty shocking examples of either destroying or badly modifying beautiful old buildings. Anyway, thanks for satisfying a local history buff.
