Quite a few loose ends from the weekend’s police and 911 reports from the Hill. Here’s an attempt to tie some of those up.
- Sunday: Man beaten in early morning E. Pike melee
SPD added a few details to our report on the 1 AM beating of two men on E. Pike outside the newly opened Hunter and Gatherers Lodge Sunday morning. According to an SPD spokesperson, officers arrived at the scene to find two men lying in the gutter, badly beaten. According to SPD, there was a large crowd gathered but only two witnesses were willing to tell police what they saw. From the information SPD pieced together, the beating occurred after a woman and two men tried to pass through a crowd gathered on the sidewalk waiting to enter the club. The woman reportedly placed her hands on the back of a white male who “flipped out” and yelled, “Don’t ever fucking touch me.” The two men came to the assistance of the woman and were immediately confronted by a black male who punched one man in the face, knocking him to the sidewalk and causing his head to slam into the pavement. The assailant was described as a black male, around 5’10”, medium build, bald and clean cut, wearing glasses and a purple button-up shirt. Officers searched the area for the suspect but could not find him. The two victims were treated with one 26-year-old male transported to Harborview with serious but non-life threatening injuries. - Friday morning: Officers arrive just in time to nab group chasing man down E. Pine
This harrowing tale of a man’s run through the closing-time streets of Capitol Hill to escape a group trying to chase him down was not a robbery attempt, according to the SPD. The incident began when a man saw a woman being harassed by two males on Harvard Ave. When the man intervened, one of the two men harassing the woman “displayed” both a pistol and a knife. As a group of four to five men surrounded the man who had tried to assist the woman, he made a run for it northbound on Harvard setting off the chase we reported on over the weekend. SPD says officers took two men into custody but only one was booked for resisting arrest after he attempted to run from police. The male who threatened the victim with a knife and gun was not found, the SPD spokesperson tells CHS. - Friday night: Cops use taser on man with duct taped spear
Not much to add to this report of trespassing, drugs and a homemade weapon involving blades taped to a pole, though SPD did confirm that the suspect was, indeed, hit with taser darts after he refused to comply as an officer attempted to trespass him from J’s Quick Stop on Bellevue Ave. Earlier in the evening, the man had to be removed from the roof of City Market where he had been attempting to set up a camp, SPD tells CHS. The medic callout after the man was hit with the taser is standard procedure whenever the weapons are used, the SPD spokesperson said, so that medical professionals can remove the dart projectiles from the skin. The man was arrested and booked on a variety of drug and weapons charges. - Sunday night: Bellevue Ave stair fall
Finally, we didn’t post about this last night but did send a note out on Twitter about a bad fall on a staircase inside a Bellevue Ave apartment building. Seattle Fire Department tells us a 21-year-old man fell town the staircase in the 300 block of Bellevue Ave around 10 PM Sunday night. He was transported to Harborview with life-threatening injuries, the SPD spokesperson tells us. No word on what led to the horrible fall.
Perhaps you should contact the people from Hunter and Gatherers Lodge on how they are going to prevent something like this in the future.
With only two men lying in the gutter, badly beaten, at the corner of Harvard and Pike, it’s good to see that the new H&G Lodge is less violence prone than the War Room it replaced.
You Seattle nightlife haters, put THAT in your pipe and smoke it!
Lines form outside clubs. The biggest issue is bad asses who think it’s OK to punch somebody in the face. After that, it might be time for better enforcement of existing rules about groups hanging around outside the club. This incident is very similar to another that occurred recently at a nearby club. Is it a big/growing problem? We’ll start asking. Here’s the other incident I refer to:

No word on what led to the horrible fall, but we do have the suspected molecular formula: C2H5OH.
