Here’s a note from neighbor Art about a couple of upcoming events to support his team’s bid to win the 2010 Gay Softball World Series. Know of another Seattle team that is planning a Hill event? Let us know in the comments.
The Emerald City Softball Association is a local Softball League, open to gay and non gay men and women, that has been around for 30 years now. At the end of each season, teams qualify for the World Series. The World Series is held in a different city each year. Seattle hosted it in 2008, with 150 teams coming in from across the country. This year, it’s being held in Columbus, Ohio.
7 teams from Seattle are going to this year’s World Series, which starts on August 16. To help with the costs associated with traveling, some teams hold fund raisers.
My team, the Seattle Squadron, is holding a couple entertaining fund raisers on Capitol Hill. I posted one on the CHS website and attached the flier to another.
The Garage Sale/Car Wash is going to have quite a bit of cool stuff to buy. From an XBox, to a couch, to clothes and shoes.
We are also dressing up a few of the guys in drag, and having them perform at Julia’s on Broadway’s “Le Faux” show, on Friday, August 6.
My team finished in 1st play in the C Division, out of 13 teams. We have 15 players on our roster, and will cost upwards of $8,000 for all of to go to Columbus for a week. That will cover the hotel and a vehicle. Air Fare is being purchased by each individual player.
By the way, you might recall the legal battle that erupted related to the disqualification of three men from the 2008 Series played in the Seattle area. We haven’t seen any updates on that case since it was reported last spring.
SEATTLE STEALTH CAR WASH!!!! Sunday, August 8th 11-3pm. We have two locations: CC’s on Capitol Hill and the 76 Station on S. 188th & 46th Ave. S.
The Seattle Stealth team is also going to the gay softball world series. Their “cinderella story” was detailed in an SGN article last week: http://www.sgn.org/sgnnews38_30/page19.cfm
The Stealth will be raising funds with a CAR WASH today (Sunday 8/1) in the parking lot behind CC’s bar on Madison & 15th, from 11am – 3pm.
$10 Donation requested. Support the underdogs!
Oops! Totally spaced on that. It’s NEXT SUNDAY Aug 8th!
