Just in time for the Friday night start of the 2010 Dead Baby Downhill race on Capitol Hill, comes this tale of a moment of escalation in the long running cars-with-loud-mufflers vs. bikes war, courtesy SeattleCrime.com :
“You didn’t just touch my mirror, did you?” the driver screamed (or something with more profanity, likely). The driver then turned and accelerated into the biker, knocking him to the ground. He then threw the car into reverse and backed up quickly all the way to Denny and left the area headed west.
You can read the write-up on the August 2nd incident here or check out SPD’s report for yourself.
No winners in that battle. But tonight’s 14th racing of the Dead Baby Downhill will crown the fastest male and female bike messenger on a course starting at 15th Ave E’s venerable Canterbury. Fastest in the messenger battle get plane tickets to Central America. The others? Glory, fame, etc. Race starts at 7 PM. Sharp, they say.

Is there some clever story behind the race name? Because it just makes me sad.
…the Dead Baby Downhill race wasn’t publicized on the interwebs. It was spread word of mouth, like a secret as to not alert the fuzz. Eh, kids nowadays.. eh… kids…
It’s a biking club, “edgy” i guess but nothing horrific.
