Well, here’s a first. Officers responded to East Bellevue Ave Tuesday night to investigate a reported street robbery of a cyclist in a nearby alley. Sounds like the cyclist wasn’t jumped while riding or anything like that — but, still, some irony in this report of yet another variant of street robbery on the Hill.
According to the victim, around 10:20 PM, he was approached by a large man, possibly of Middle Eastern descent, about 5’10”, 250 pounds wearing a black leather jacket, possibly some sort of camo bottoms, and a black hat. The man threatened the cyclist with some sort of weapon and stole a white backpack. The cyclist told police the bag contained nothing but interinner tubes.
Police were searching for a person familiar to the East Precinct who fits the description of the suspect. As of this morning, according to King County Jail records, that person had not been arrested.
Completely off topic, but this reminds me of a story from my east coast days. Several mornings a week, I’d see my neighbor riding his bike dressed in full cycling attire. Picture a hot cyclist’s body clad only in a helmet, tight yellow jersey, and blue spandex biking shorts. Strapped to his back was a M1911 service pistol. I noticed that cars were always extremely careful when passing him.
I always hate to hear of robberies on The Hill. Especially this one, since inter tubes[sic] are like gold to a cyclist.
but I am an editor at heart. I think you mean inner tubes. And, uh, why irony?
Love your posts. Seriously. I am sorry to be so fucking pedantic.
I have legit excuse this time. Auto correct fail. Thanks
the map indicates the 600 block, but the story doesn’t say for sure nor if it was the alley on the Summit side or the Melrose side
Ob: pedantic, it’s Bellevue Ave East not East Bellevue Ave.
I’m not sure, but I think crack smokers make some kind of crack pipe with the inner tubes.
Oh wait.. That’s not it. It’s the heroin users. They wrap the tubes around their arms when they shoot up. That’s it! That’s clearly why cyclists are being targeted.
I fear we may have to go to tubeless tires.
