A Wednesday morning commercial burglary in the 1400 block of East Union emptied a restaurant’s register of about $100 in cash and lightened its bar shelves by a few bottles. From the location of the report, the unnamed business appears to be the Chloe building’s Marjorie. The complete police report is below. While we’re sorry for Marjorie, we did get a small chuckle from the note regarding the bottle of whisky the officer took for the “evidence unit.”
On 01/19/11, at 0953 hrs, while working uniformed patrol in a marked patrol car, I responded to 14 E Union St on an Open window. I arrived and noticed a 3×5 glass window shattered. I observed a cash register till inside lying on top of the bar and appeared to have been removed from the register.
Officers made entry by climbing into the broken window and cleared the establishment. I made contact with V who arrived as officers were clearing the building. She stated she received a call from a tenant that her window was shattered around 0945 hrs, this date. She said her W had closed shop about 2430 hrs last night and would know what was missing.
I spoke with W who stated he locked and secured the bar at about 2430 hrs, 01/19/11. He made an inventory of the bar and noticed about a hundred dollars in cash (tips) was taken from the register and a key. He further stated that several bottles of liquor were taken from behind the bar. He said he has no suspects or witnessed in this case. I checked the scene and observed the point of entry to be the northwest window, which is a 3×5 single paned glass attached to a garage door. The area behind the bar appeared ransacked. The register till was left lying on the bar.
Officer Leonard, 1C23, took photographs of the scene. The photographs were later submitted into the SPD photolab.
Officer Leonard also dusted the bar area and register for latent prints and was able to lift one print off the bar. He also took a bottle of whisky to the evidence unit to be dusted for prints. V/ was provided with a business card containing an SPD case number.
I hereby declare (certify) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that this report is true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief (RCW 9A.72.085)
Pretty low to break into a new business
“I spoke with W who stated he locked and secured the bar at about 2430 hrs” Err, 2430 hours? Uh, does that even exist in our world? Isn’t that 0030?
Someone was desperate for a drink. Pathetic!
