Slog’s Freaky Friday needs a neighborhood blogger

It’s another Freaky Friday on Slog — a day when they hand the blog over to a select group of commenters. It’s good times . But, once again, there’s not a neighborhood blogger in the bunch. Yes, it’s cool to have a group of people on the mic who don’t usually have an audience — but the inexperience is also a weakness. Freaky Fridays start with a burst and nearly always fade with a whimper as the newbies don’t know how to pace themselves. Freaky Friday needs some semi-pros. We’d like to see somebody ultra sincere like WSB get in the mix (though it could be rough facing the Slog’s penny groundlings). We’d sign up but, just by writing about our interest, we’ve probably guaranteed that we’ll never be asked.

I usually have about a 2.5:1 ratio on Slog. As in I scroll past approximately 2.5 posts for every one I read on Slog. On Freaky Friday that jumps to about 9:1.

We have been writing so much for so long that we have not an ounce of wit or cleverness left (and it’s disputable whether we had any in the first place) so we COMPLETELY would not qualify. But I agree with your assessment. Let’s give it over to the hoods for a day — like the Mid Beacon Hill, Blogging Georgetown, Central District News up-n-comers — bet there’s some humor in there somewhere :) But don’t sell yourselves short; you guys DO have wit, acerbicity, wryness, slyness, and so on, I’d read it if you were part of it, otherwise I’m doing that scrolling thing Elizabeth mentioned, too.

SLOG’s OK, but I unsubscribed a while back. Too bitchy and I can’t stand Dan Savages morbidly graphic and gloating postings about how hetero parents can be just as cruel and savage to their children as homo parents. NO shit, sherlock – you’re preaching to the choir/

SLOG is just to shrill and intolerantly liberal for my taste.

But I love the Stranger.

That’s sweet of you to mention me, WS. I recently started taking neighborhood blogging more seriously by cutting out personal stuff and non-neighborhood-related stuff, but I’m afraid the blog has gotten duller. I’m going to try to find more fun in the neighborhood stuff, but, truth be told, Beacon Hill is pretty goddamn boring. We’ll see…

Gee, too bad there isn’t some former “Almost Live!” or “Bill Nye the Science Guy” Writer around who just started a neighborhood blog. Oh wait…there IS one, and it’s me…and the blog is the B-Town Blog, but it’s in…ugh…Burien? Oh well…

I think the point of Freaky Friday is for Slog to round-up it’s most vocal commenters so that they can see that it isn’t so easy to provide even a day’s worth of lively content.

(That said, the current gawkermedia inspired trend of blogs having 20-40 posts per day is kind of killing me and my poor RSS reader. I used to read blogs expecting someone else to sort out what was worth reading for me.)
