Is Rainbow a CHS Hall of Famer?

We come to honor Rainbow — not, yet, to bury it. Today, we nominate Rainbow Natural Grocery as the first candidate for the CHS Hall of Fame.

Requirements for the Hall of Fame are ambiguous at best. We think of it as an opportunity to honor and remember neighborhood icons that have passed on. There is no formal committee for nominations nor any hard-set rules about who or what can be nominated and when. It will happen when we know it must.

Requirements for voting are even more ambiguous. Reading this? Please vote. How often can you vote? The poll service we use discourages “multiple voting” but if you are savvy, you can probably figure out a way to vote again.

CHS Hall of Fame entrance requires approval by 75% of votes counted. Rainbow’s election period ends Monday, April 30th at 5p Seattle time.

We nominate Rainbow for…
Choice — Provided people with an alternative to big chain grocery stores
Longevity — Part of the neighborhood’s ebb and flow for more than 20 years
Appreciation — Rainbow’s struggles reminded us to recognize the good things we have around us even if it was too late to save it.

Rainbow also had its issues — from service complaints to the sense that it had outlived its usefulness. We don’t feel these issues should stand in the way of Rainbow’s entry to the Hall. But, now, that is up to you.
