Layoffs at Capitol Hill Times publisher

Heard today that there will be cuts at Pacific Publishing, the good folks who bring you the Capitol Hill Times among other Seattle neighborhood papers.

In a landscape where giants like the Seattle PI and Times are tightening belts and online content behemoths like Yahoo! are undergoing massive layoffs, not hugely surprising to find out about struggles here at the local level. Add a swiftly tilting playing field with the rise of elements like neighborhood blogs and the transition to social media like Facebook, Twitter, etc. and there’s no choice but change for a company like Pacific.

Meanwhile, I’ve been assured CHT is still alive and will continue to publish. That’s good news for CHS. As much as we might compete for ad bucks, etc., it’s better to have the Hill Times in the conversation. I also like having something I can fold, tear, underline, scribble on and stick in my back pocket.

There are a lot of people being laid off but there are still thousands of high paying jobs posted on job sites –

http://www.linkedin.com (networking)
http://www.indeed.com (aggregated listings)
http://www.realmatch.com (matches you to jobs)

good luck to those searching for jobs.

Does that mean that Doug will start asking for more stories from community members? More paper space for us?
