Responsible disposal of electronics big and small is coming to Capitol Hill. Here’s a cool event next weekend from the St. Joseph’s EcoJustice Group. We figured you might want to start cleaning out your closets this rainy Sunday.
Free Capitol Hill Electronics Recycling Event
October 9, 2011: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
St. Joe’s Parking Lot; 732 18th Ave E., SeattleHow much unused electronic equipment and other “stuff” do you have lying around the house? Wouldn’t you like to recycle it easily and responsibly?
Did you know E waste is only 2% of the trash in American landfills but represents 70% of overall toxic waste?
St. Joseph’s Parish and Friendly Earth, a non- profit recycling organization, are sponsoring a free Electronics Recycling Event, Sunday, October 9 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 pm in the St. Joseph’s parking lot.
There will be a truck on site with Friendly Earth staff ready to accept donations of electronics, appliances and scrap metals free of charge. They will take old computers and parts, hair dryers, printers, refrigerators, washers and dryers, cords, cables, cell phones, gaming systems, televisions, radios, cars, bikes and more! They will also accept unusually large appliances, all for free. Their goal is to reuse, recycle, refurbish and salvage everything so toxic materials don’t end up in landfills and water systems, here and abroad.
All donations are tax-deductible. Certificates of destruction of data will be provided.
For a more extensive list of acceptable items, please visit www.friendlyearth.org.

is this like a swap, or are they just taking everything away to “be repurposed/recycled” without letting anyone actually repurpose the items directly?
