It’s already the first second Thursday of 2025 — Take your first Capitol Hill Art Walk of the year

While the number of participating venues in tonight’s first Capitol Hill Art Walk of the new year falls just short of 25, that is still a hell of a lot of neighborhood art.

Start 2025 off right by checking out a venue or two on this first second Thursday of the year.

There is also a new participant in the Walk. Sandbox Seattle is a new addition to the mix adding a a video and photo studio, co-working space, and lounge at 1417 10th Ave. The studio is hosting a new exhibit from Lucille Groleau “featuring a series of eight oil paintings, six small 8×10 framed paintings and two larger pieces on stretched canvas.” Sandbox is also showcasing a selection of printed photographs from our local studio collective through January.

Learn more and check out a map of all participating venues at capitolhillartwalk.com.

Art notes: Mister Michelle moves in on E Pike, maps return to Capitol Hill Art Walk

(Image: Mister Michelle)

There is a new art space in the heart of Pike/Pine. Meanwhile, thanks to a small bit of city funding from the Capitol Hill Arts District, Thursday’s November edition of the Capitol Hill Art Walk will feature the return of a vital feature for any art walk — paper maps!

Art walk coordinator Laurie Kearney says there will be a limited number of maps available for pick up at venues for the November walk — and more at future walks.

You can find an online map and listings of November highlights at capitolhillartwalk.com.

For a new venue to check out, artist Mister Michelle has opened a studio inside the 112-year-old 1100 E Pike building: Continue reading

On the List | Pre-Valentine’s edition Capitol Hill Art Walk includes a ‘Plotter Party’ with ‘robots that draw’

You love art. Your sweetie loves art. Next week is Valentine’s Day. Thursday night is the February edition of the Capitol Hill Art Walk. It all adds up.

Go check out the neighborhood creations and buy your sweetie — or yourself — some art to love at studios, galleries, cafes, and more across the Hill.

This month’s highlights include “audiovisual entertainment featuring projections and djing” at the Six of Pikes studio and gallery in the basement at 11th and Pike.

Meanwhile, E Union’s Passable is planning a “Plotter Party” with an “art, tech, and design open house and art show where plotter enthusiasts will share plotter-generated work, and several plotting machines will be running for live-action fun.”

“Think of a robot that draws,” Passable says, if you aren’t familiar with the artful power of a plotter.

You can find information on these events and more of the February art walk lineup at capitolhillartwalk.com.

Here is a good resolution for 2024: See more art. Thursday night’s January edition of the Capitol Hill Art Walk is a good start.

Though the listings at capitolhillartwalk.com are a little lighter than usual, there are still lots of area venues participating in this month’s walk. The monthly art walk takes place every second Thursday at studios, galleries, shops, and cafes across the Hill.

Thursday night’s Capitol Hill Art Walk was just the start of a busy weekend of Pride-powered activities in the neighborhood. Make sure to check out details of Parke Diem and the Pride edition of the “second Saturday” On the Block 11th Ave street festival here.

On CHS’s walk Thursday night, we visited the JRAT show at the No Bad Days gallery, took in a little of the Palace of Peen art show at Passable, visited the Steve Gilbert Studio (hi, Steve), stopped through a pop-up DJ show at the SUM K-fashion shop, stopped in Six of Pikes Studio and Vermillion (happy 15th birthday, Vermillion), and browsed a queer marketplace at Chophouse Row. Pfew! Busy night. You can check through the Capitol Hill Art Walk listings at capitolhillartwalk.com to learn more.

Save your energy. There is plenty more Capitol Hill Pride still to come.
