Seattle Public Library is borrowing a few hours from Capitol Hill and Douglass-Truth to add Monday openings in Montlake

The ways things sometimes go, we should probably celebrate what is retained over mourning anything lost in the most recent changes for library hours across Capitol Hill, the Central District, and the bibliocentric shelves down the hill in Montlake.

The Seattle Public Library has announced a set of small changes for its Capitol Hill-area branches that will make small reductions while maintaining — and adding — seven-day service.

Starting Tuesday, Jan. 27, The Seattle Public Library will update hours at three locations and expand the number of libraries that are open seven days a week – from 13 to 14 locations – with the addition of new Monday hours at the Montlake Branch.

Seattle library systems being restored after Memorial Day Weekend ransomware attack

The Seattle Public Library’s website is back online and the system is restoring many of its technology services after a ransomware cyber attack earlier this week.

“The Library continues working to securely restore more technology services, such as e-books and e-audiobooks, computers, Wi-Fi, printing and more,” SPL said in an update Wednesday afternoon.

The library’s computer system was taken offline after a Memorial Day Weekend cyber attack that came just before a planned maintenance outage, SPL says. Continue reading

Seattle Public Library, facing another workforce crunch, slices hours including temporarily cutting Sundays at Capitol Hill branch

Continuing staffing issues has the Seattle Public Library system pulling back on service and hours at branches across the city over the coming weeks:

Several factors have impacted the Library’s staffing capacity, including changes to the Library’s minimum staffing levels and increased leave usage. Our impacted staffing capacity has led to unplanned closures, as the Library must redirect staff from one location to another if a branch doesn’t have the right number, or right mix, of staff to open and operate a building safely and with full library services. The Library is working to bring on additional staffing support.

The SPL system is implementing “scheduled closures” at several branches including the Capitol Hill library through June 4th. The Capitol Hill branch is implementing noon openings on Thursdays and will now be closed on Sundays through June 4th.

SPL says the staffing situation will be reevaluated in May when details of “the Library’s schedule beyond June 4” will be announced. Continue reading
